All Saints Day in Cadiz

AurigaCrown Car Hire offers their clients ideas on different events and places to visit during their stay in Spain. In this article some insights into Cadiz and All Saints Day, a large affair in Cadiz.

As everyone must know, November 1st is All Saints Day and despite the fact that Halloween gains more prominence each year, traditional celebrations are still taking place. On October 31st Cadiz fills with people for the Feast of the Markets with food stalls, good humour and satire.

The decorated market stalls line the city streets, often depicting current events and selling all manner of local food and wine. The vendors go disguised, dress up their products like creating puppets with their vegetables and fruits, etc. In this way each stall intents to represent a current issue or event in a satirical and humorous way. And they can join in the contest for adorned stalls of the city´s municipal markets. A jury will be awarding the top three places in each category: Meat, Fish, Fruits, Vegetables, and Miscellaneous.

Further, since a couple of years there are also conferences and festivals with lectures, audiovisual presentations, tastings, fun parades, flamenco performances, children´s activities, magic shows and more throughout the festival period.

As a true Andalusian celebration, traditional food will not be missing: of course with the local products of excellent quality. At All Saints Day, it is considered that the summer climate has ended which is celebrated with the presentation of seasonal ingredients as walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, cherries, figs, oranges, potatoes, sweet potatoes, custard apples, avocados, olives, but meats and fish are also present, plus a number of pastries and sweets. A variety of products of great quality.
