In this article some cultural tips when visiting Malaga and its surroundings.

The Picasso Museum presents Alberto Giacometti (Alberto y Annette Giacometti Foundation, Paris). ¨A Retrospective¨, an exhibition that shows the different stages of the artistic career of one of the most prominent artists of the past century. His work is key to understanding the development of avant-garde and the subsequent evolution of contemporary art, nevertheless, he is an unclassifiable author. This project challenges the reductionist view that has often been considered the work of this creator. The exhibition is available from October 27th until February 5th 2012 at the Picasso Museum in Malaga.

The Picasso museum in Malaga, the birthplace of the artist, was funded by the Junta de Andalusia with the support of Picasso´s heirs, and is the fulfilment of a lifelong dream of the artist. One of the world's many Picasso museums, it opened in 2003 in the Buenavista Palace, and has 155 works donated by members of Picasso's family, pieces that cover "all the creative periods of the artist's work", and include creations from his youth to those which he signed at the end of his life.

Great Night of Blues - Tribute to Route 66 in Malaga

AurigaCrown Car Hire offers their clients ideas on different events and places to visit during their stay in Spain. Providing options for visits that are within easy reach with a rental car, nice routes, places to visit and from where to start. In this article some insights into the Great Night of Blues concert in Malaga and about the city and its surroundings.

Some of the most prominent bands of Malaga get together to perform a deserved tribute to Route 66, the jazz and blues club in Fuengirola which remained in frenetic activity between 1995 and 2002, and to Steve Themonk, the director and responsible for the success and popularity of the place which he ran brilliantly.

Route 66 was much more than just a club with live concerts. In those years, it was the shelter and promoter of genres hitherto neglected or avoided and consequently became a space for the consolidation of soloists and combos that went beyond the local scope. Route 66 made room for veterans like Richard Ray Farrell or the Lito Blues Band and to novices at that time as El trio del Saco and Mama Kin. All these and many more will meet for a memorable evening, a can't-miss for blues fans.

Tribute to Route 66: Lito Fernández, Richard Ray Farrel, Mama Kin, El Trío del Saco...When: Jueves 29 de diciembre
Time: 21:00
Where: Teatro Echegaray
Address: c/ Echegaray, 6 Malaga
Tel.: 952 22 41 00

Apart from the Great Night of Blues there is of course much more to enjoy in Malaga and surroundings. Malaga hosts the exhibition The modern tradition of the Carmen Thyssen collection. Monet, Picasso, Matisse, Miró. From June 14 to October 16, 2011.

AurigaCrown Car Hire offers their clients ideas on different events and places to visit during their stay in Spain. Providing options for visits that are within easy reach with a rental car, nice routes, places to visit and from where to start. In this article some cultural tips when visiting Malaga and its surroundings.

The first temporary exhibition has arrived, "The Modern Tradition," with nineteenth-century Spanish art represented by works brought from the Thyssen museum in Madrid and the National Museum of Catalonia. In addition there is a new part composed of paintings from the private collection of Baroness Carmen Thyssen, which will be exhibited for the first time. Further, international artists such as Matisse, Braque and Monet are present to show the influence of these artists on Spanish art.
The main purpose of the exhibition is to tell the story of the different trends of the twentieth century and their influence on Spanish art.  This is done by the exhibition of works from Picasso, Gris, Miró and Tàpies and works from the private collection of Carmen Thyssen. More than a third of the sixty pieces that are part of this fantastic exhibition were brought from the Thyssen Museum in Madrid, including dazzling works like "The House among the Roses" by Monet. To the delight of Malaga and its visitors, these works will be at the Thyssen Museum in Malaga until October 16th.

The works that form the exhibition represent each stage of modernism from the more naturalistic and realistic works of Casas and Rusiñol, followed by the tragic and social dimension of Nonell, the decorative and 'art nouveau' of Anglada, the tragic and decorative of Mir and the noucentisme of Suñer. The third part of the exhibition comprises the "secret part" of the collection of Carmen Thyssen. With this exhibition the Baroness has shown that she possesses paintings that nobody could have imagined that they would be part of her collection, furthermore the Baroness closely followed the placement of all painting.

It is important to emphasize that the exhibition features paintings of great value, defined by the exhibition curator, Guillermo Solana, like mentioning "the stars of the show". As for example ¨The House among the Roses¨ (Monet, 1925), which is displayed next to ¨The Courtyard of the Sorolla House¨ (Sorolla, 1917), ¨Portuguese¨ (Delaunay, 1916) and ¨Sitting Woman¨(Gris, 1917). Besides those ¨The Harvesters¨ from Picasso, which does not belong to Cubism, but to Fauvism, and will certainly surprise visitors with its pure colours. The same goes for ¨Marina L'Estaque¨ (Braque, 1906) and the ¨Portuguese¨ by Delaunay.

The modern tradition is characterized as the best exposition Malaga and entire Andalusia ever had. A unique exhibition with works from the Thyssen Museum and the National Museum of Catalonia that will be open to the public until October 16th. With, what´s more, a third of the exhibition coming from the private collection of Carmen Thyssen that has never been shown before. Be sure to visit "The modern tradition" in the Carmen Thyssen Museum in Malaga, a rewarding experience for you and your family.

Apart from this great exhibitions there is of course much more to see and to do in and around Malaga. Cultural visits in Malaga, Marbella, Granada, Seville, or some days of relax on the beach, hikes in nature, all within easy reach with your rental car.
