European Film Festival Seville

AurigaCrown Car Hire offers their clients ideas on different events and places to visit during their stay in Spain. In this article some insights into Seville and the European Film Festival Seville.

Seville showcases the latest releases in European cinema at the VII edition of its high-profile annual Film Festival ¨Sevilla Festival de Cine Europeo¨. The festival has grown both in number of spectators as well as in media coverage and the main protagonist this year will be Russia. Celebrated this year from November 4th to 12th.
The Festival's artistic director, Javier Martin-Dominguez, announced that Russia will be the object of a comprehensive retrospective that will go from the beginning of Soviet cinema to the latest offers. It features works from the new generation of directors and pays tribute to classics such as Sergei Eisenstein and Dziga Vertov. They include fiction and documentary, and a selection of short films. The choice of country coincides with the dual year celebration of Russia in Spain and Spain in Russia, inaugurated recently by the Royal family during their visit to St. Petersburg. The Festival´s objective is to promote a greater understanding between the Russian and Spanish film industries to promote cooperation and co-productions between the two countries. Russia has signed an agreement to integrate with the European co-production fund EURIMAGES, that collaborates in each edition of the Festival of Seville and finances a selection of the works. The Festival will feature the collaboration of the Russian Ministry of Culture, the Russian Embassy in Spain, its consulate in Seville and other institutions.

Martin-Dominguez also announced that as a result of the work by the international consolidation of the Festival, Seville will be the only Spanish event involved in the Eye on Film Project, an initiative supported by the European programme Media Mundus which aims to support the visibility of new European productions in the international arena and attract talented new directors from outside the continent. Others that participate in the project, together with the European Film Festival of Seville, are the Festivals of Edinburgh, Tallinn, Montreal, Paris, Israel and Rio de Janeiro.
