Wine Tourism in Jerez

A route full of culture and tradition related to the production of universal and ancient wines, brandies and vinegars. The wine and brandy route. The bodegas in this area northwest of Cadiz were pioneers in opting for this type of tourism based on gastronomy. They opened their doors to visitors as from the sixties, positioning themselves today as the most visited in Europe, annually attracting more than half a million tourists.

Visit the famous bodegas-cathedrals, get a first hand sight at the peculiar way of the making of sherry, stay in a village amidst the vineyards, learn about the art of wine tasting and discover the perfect culinary combination for each wine.

The wine cellars,  bars, hotels, restaurants, museums and leisure companies in the towns of Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Chiclana de la Frontera, Chipiona, Puerto Real, Rota, Trebujena and Lebrija – this latter belonging to the province of Seville - form part of the famous wine and brandy routes of Jerez, in honour of the designation of origin that distinguishes its wines.

Of all mentioned, Jerez de la Frontera is the principal one. Horseback riding, walking the mountains
and the bright seaside cities, meet this place, where the wine shares the spotlight with other great features that mark the identity of the city, like flamenco or horse breeding. A few kilometers away you find El Puerto de Santa Maria, a town full of history, vinyl and marine.
I you go up north, at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River and across from the Coto de Donana, you find Sanlucar de Barrameda, recognized as the birthplace of the Manzanilla, a wine of marine character a perfect companion to the gastronomy of the area.

Near this town you can find Trebujar, since many years a land of grape growers celebrating each year the arrival of the new must. The vineyards are located further north and are now in the town of Lebrija that, despite of being  Sevillian, Cadiz shares its winemaking tradition with the villages of Cadiz.

In Chipiona visitors can admire the impressive lighthouse and one of the most important varieties of vines of the region: the Muscat.

Further south, in Rota, Chiclana de la Frontera and Puerto Real, you can visit the land of orchards and vineyards, located practically next to the beach..

This corner of the Jerez frame contains the essence of art and character of Andalusia, that accompany the light, the sea and a landscape in which the wheat, sunflowers and vineyards mingle .

Over a hundred places dedicated to this type of tourism improve year to year and are convinced of the attractiveness and importance of wine and brandy as a mark of identity of the Jerez framework.
